Telehealth-First Care for Montana Patients
Montana has one of the most significant psychiatric care shortages in the country. According to the Health Resources and Services Administration, large portions of Montana are designated as mental health professional shortage areas, meaning the ratio of patients to available providers falls well below federal thresholds. In many parts of the state, the nearest in-person psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner is hours away, and wait times for new patient appointments are long even in larger cities. Telehealth does not solve all of that, but it removes one significant barrier: you do not have to live near a provider to have access to one.
Telehealth appointments at Sage take place through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You will receive a link before your appointment, and the visit happens from wherever you have a reliable internet connection, your home, your office, or anywhere else that works for you.
The care itself is the same as in-person psychiatric care. Your first appointment is a full psychiatric evaluation. Subsequent appointments cover how your treatment is working, medication adjustments as needed, and the ongoing management of your care over time. You see the same provider at every visit.
