Sage Psychiatry Services hosts PMHNP students for in-person clinical rotations at our office in Colorado Springs. Students looking for a PMHNP preceptor in Colorado Springs will work directly with Alexis Adams, PMHNP-BC, who founded the practice and leads our patient care.
Because the practice is small and appointment-only, a PMHNP clinical rotation in Colorado Springs looks a little different here. Patients are followed over months and often years, and many of them came to Sage after trying other treatments without the results they needed. A rotation here shows you what that kind of long-term psychiatric care involves from the provider side.
Most of the work at Sage happens in two kinds of visits: psychiatric evaluations for new patients and follow-up appointments for ongoing medication management. The practice also offers IV ketamine infusions and Spravato (esketamine) treatment in the office, and TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) will be available soon. Students often say these treatment days are some of the most hands-on parts of the rotation, since they get to observe and help monitor patients during Spravato and ketamine sessions under Alexis’s supervision. Patients range from children and teens through older adults, and a large share of the practice is made up of military families and Veterans, many of them covered through Tricare or the VA.
Students work with the full range of conditions an outpatient psychiatry practice treats, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD and OCD, along with perinatal and postpartum mental health. Sage also takes on complex and treatment-resistant cases, so students get to watch a treatment plan get revisited and adjusted over several visits as a patient’s needs change. More detail on the conditions Sage treats is on our psychiatric services in Colorado Springs page.
Sage has hosted students from Walden University, Herzing University, Colorado State University Pueblo and Maryville University. If your program isn’t on that list, you’re still welcome to reach out.

Rotations at Sage are built around PMHNP students. Alexis also accepts students from other nurse practitioner tracks and from physician assistant programs, as long as the rotation is psychiatry-specific. Sage doesn’t host rotations for other specialties.
